End of Semester Reflection

How did you use AI applications in your practicum (e.g., not at all, lesson planning, assessment)? I only used AI once throughout my practicum and it was for my very first lesson. In this lesson, the students and I needed to say a magic spell to reveal our hidden messages. I used Chat GPT and gave it some information about what I wanted my spell to be about. Chat GPT wrote a really good rhyming spell that I ended up using in class. My mentor teacher was very impressed with my use of AI for this. What did you learn or “take-away” from this course and how has your perspective about integrating technology into K to 6 education changed/grown throughout the course? This course showed me some different ways that technology can be related to education. For example using blogs and twitter to find new resources and ideas related to education, as well as sharing our own ideas. I don’t think that my perspective on technology in education has changed very much, but I did find it very interesting...

Integrating ICT and Math

The Great Place Value Challenge Lesson Plan Above I have attached a link to my lesson plan that integrates Mathematics with ICT using a website called Scratch. This lesson is something that I can use in the classroom I am currently placed in. The children have been learning about place value and I think that they would really enjoy this game as another way to practice their learning. They really enjoying playing math board games but I haven't seen them play anything on a computer yet so this would be a fun way for them to try because it is low stakes. With this lesson, I could also move forward by teaching students how to use Scratch to create their own math games. This would be a fun way to integrate the computer science outcomes with math and ICT because students would learn more computer and coding skills, while being able to create a math game about any of the topics they've learned so far. They could then share their games with other students and it would give them all a c...

Blog #4- Teaching with Technology

Lesson                  Canva Above I have attached a link to my lesson plan and a link to the website we used in our lesson. While teaching this lesson in class, I experienced some challenges. The first challenge was teaching this to only one student as the others students hadn't arrived yet. This meant that the group discussion portion of the lesson didn't go as planned. Instead, Emily and I shared some of our traditions and participated in the discussion. We also had some troubles with the Smart Board as the video wouldn't go full screen and Canva didn't want to work. However, we instead used our computer to show the students Canva and also created our own Canva collages like the one I created above (Los Tres Reyes Magos). It was helpful to be able to practice my lesson because I learnt about what I can do when technology isn't working. I also thought more about how cool it is that I get to learn about students tradit...

Blog #3- My Digital Story

Image
Attached below is a link to my digital story. A digital story is a narrative that uses images, sound, and video, to share a message. The combinations of various multimedia elements enhance the storytelling process. This digital story focuses on sharing information about the Siksika Nation. Specifically discussing its history, language, and how this informs my teaching. Please click on the link below to watch a 5 min video and hopefully learn something new! Twitter Feed Hello! I have attached a link to my Twitter feed where you can follow along with my Tweets for my education course. I also wanted to share how I think Twitter could be used in my future as a teacher. Twitter is a good resource for me to have as a teacher because I can find a variety of content from people all over the world. I can learn ideas from professors, administration, researchers, and retired or current teachers, all with the click of a button. Besides finding ideas for lessons, activities, and teaching techniques, I can also use Twitter to share what is happening in my classroom. This can be as simple as sharing my username with parents of the students to keep up with activities we do at school, or creating my own Twitter blog where I post my experiences, ideas, and content. Either way, using Twitter as a teacher is a simple way to learn and share all to do with teaching, with others.

Previous experience with AI applications e.g., ChatGPT) and how you have used them (e.g., writing assignments)? My previous experience with AI applications has mostly been fun and games. I've played around with ChatGPT to see what questions it can answer and how accurate it is. I've also tested out apps that record lectures and take notes for me. Additionally, I've used AI to help me reduce words in a paragraph or to edit my grammar for me. Educational technology being used in your 3rd year practicum placement? In my practicum this year, there are a few technologies being used. One technology that is very new to me is a Loft board. This board is like a smartboard and a huge iPad combined together. My mentor teacher also uses a document camera to project books and papers onto the board. From the student side, they have Chromebooks available to use when the teacher books them. Lastly, for class management and organization for home, she uses Google Classroom and Class Dojo. ...
