End of Semester Reflection

  • How did you use AI applications in your practicum (e.g., not at all, lesson planning, assessment)?


I only used AI once throughout my practicum and it was for my very first lesson. In this lesson, the

students and I needed to say a magic spell to reveal our hidden messages. I used Chat GPT and gave

it some information about what I wanted my spell to be about. Chat GPT wrote a really good rhyming

spell that I ended up using in class. My mentor teacher was very impressed with my use of AI for this.

  • What did you learn or “take-away” from this course and how has your perspective about integrating

  • technology into K to 6 education changed/grown throughout the course?


This course showed me some different ways that technology can be related to education. For example

using blogs and twitter to find new resources and ideas related to education, as well as sharing our own

ideas. I don’t think that my perspective on technology in education has changed very much, but I did

find it very interesting to see how technology can help students’ understanding. During this practicum,

my MT and I realized that this group of kids really needed videos and onlines games to solidify their

understanding. By integrating these, we both found that the students were more engaged and more excited

about learning.

  • How did this course help you answer your “burning” question about the use of digital technologies in K to 6 education?


My burning question was about using AI as a teacher and integrating it into lesson planning, assessment,

and any other ways. This course did not fully answer my question, however, a friend did show me a cool

website called MagicSchool.AI where you can use AI in lesson planning, rubrics, worksheets, and many

more different ways. It was very cool to see all the possibilities, but I still wish we would have learned

more about AI.

  • How did you contribute to the learning of others?


During my practicum, I taught my MT about some ways she could use AI in her classroom to lessen

the load on her. I told her about MagicSchool.AI and some of its capabilities. I also mentioned ChatGPT

to her and how she could incorporate it into her lesson planning and extracurricular clubs for school. She

was very intrigued by the information and wants to try using it.


I also used a lot of technology while teaching my students. Most of my lessons started with a video or a

catchy song based on the topic. I would then use google slides as my main form of sharing information

because I could very easily add images which was very important for the ELL and diverse learners I had

in the class. I would then use an online game for whole class instruction for the students to interact with

and develop their understandings. I sadly did not get a chance for the students to individually use technology

to learn, however, they were not ready for this step and it was the right decision to not include this yet!

  • What did you learn from others?


As mentioned above, I learned about a website called magic school AI that has lots of possibilities of what AI

can help teachers with. I also learned about GimKit which is a website where students can play games related to

whatever concept they are learning. After they play the game, teachers can see the analytical data on how students

answered and how well they did.
